Job Title:Linux Operations Engineer (Remote)

Employment Type: Contract

We are seeking a skilled Unix Operations Consultant to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in Unix/Linux systems administration and be responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our Unix-based systems. The Unix Ops Consultant will work closely with other IT professionals to design, implement, and maintain robust Unix environments.
Professional skills
  • Proficiency in Unix/Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu).
  • Strong knowledge of shell scripting (e.g., Bash, Perl, Python).
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Jenkins).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
  • Understanding of networking concepts and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM).
  • Knowledge of storage systems and backup solutions.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus).
  • Know how to work in agile Team ( Scrum or Kanban)
Technical Knowledge and certifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Unix/Linux system administration.
  • You own an A level + 2 years  or equivalent level through experience and professional training;
  • You possess the ability and willingness to quickly learn new technologies, capable of self-study;
  • In addition to your strong communication skills, you are structured, process minded and able to maintain the high level overview
  • You are fluent in English (at least B2 Level).  French is considered as an asset;
  • You can work independently and can manage your time;
  • You are eager to work in a dynamic multi-national environment with a strong customer focus;
Activities (proactive and reactive):
  • System Administration: Perform day-to-day administration, monitoring, and support of Unix/Linux servers.
  • Maintenance: Schedule and perform regular maintenance tasks, including patch management, upgrades, and backups.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues, providing timely support to minimize downtime.
  • Security: Implement and maintain security policies, including firewall configurations, user access controls, and system hardening.
  • Performance Tuning: Optimize system performance and ensure high availability of infrastructure.
  • Automation: Develop and maintain automation scripts for system administration tasks using shell scripting and other programming languages.
  • Disaster Recovery: Develop, implement, and test disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation of systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work with development and operations teams to support application deployments and infrastructure improvements.
  • Compliance: Ensure systems comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
