Job Title: Kong Administrator/Developer
Location: Abu Dhabi
Job Type: Contract
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and configure Kong entities such as services, routes, plugins, caching, and API management.
- Create custom Lua scripts to enhance functionality.
- Integrate Kong with existing APIs and backend systems for seamless connectivity.
- Manage API security protocols, including authentication, authorization, and rate limiting.
- Implement traffic management features like load balancing and caching for optimized API performance.
- Monitor and troubleshoot Kong performance, including setting up alerts and debugging issues.
- Automate Kong configurations in alignment with DevOps pipelines.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive API documentation using the Kong Developer Portal.
- Stay informed on the latest Kong features, updates, and best practices.
- Create, customize, and maintain Kong plugins to extend platform capabilities, including implementing request and response transformations.
- Apply Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) to secure API endpoints.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Kong Administrator/Developer with an in-depth understanding of Kong's architecture and features.
- Strong grasp of API design principles, including RESTful APIs and OpenAPI specifications.
- Hands-on experience with web services and microservices architectures.
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Lua and Python.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools such as Git and CI/CD pipelines.
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills with a focus on performance optimization.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across teams.
- Certifications in Kong or equivalent are preferred.
- Solid understanding of Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) implementations.
- Experience working with Kubernetes and Kong Ingress controllers.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Proficiency in API security tools such as OAuth, OIDC, or Auth0.
- Familiarity with API testing tools like Postman, JMeter, and Insomnia.
